About Rust

You wake up on a mysterious island with only a rock and a torch. Heat, cold, thirst and hunger are constant threats, and so are the island’s wildlife, its inhabitants and other players. The goal is simple: stay alive another night.

To get ahead, you gather materials, craft tools, armor and weapons, and build a base to store your loot and hold your territory. You can research a tech tree, grow farms and set up electrical systems. Vehicles range from horses and bikes to boats, trains, hot air balloons and helicopters.

Worlds are generated procedurally, and you can host your own server with mod support. Steam lists Rust as an online game with PvP, co-op and MMO play, and says the developer releases a content update every month.

How to activate

Steam (PC)

1. Install Steam and sign in to your Steam account.
2. Select Games → Activate a Product on Steam in the top menu.
3. Enter the key from your order email. The game is added to your library, ready to download.

Mac players follow the same steps in the Steam app for macOS.

Xbox

1. Sign in to your Microsoft account at microsoft.com/redeem, or open the Microsoft Store on your console and choose Redeem.
2. Enter the 25-character key from your order email and confirm.
3. The game is added to your account. Install it from My games & apps.

Online multiplayer needs a paid membership on consoles: a Game Pass membership with online play on Xbox.
