Master Inserting PDFs into Word Documents with These Simple Methods

Learn how to insert a PDF into Microsoft Word with ease. Follow these easy steps to embed and manage PDFs in your Word documents seamlessly.
Open Your Word Document
Start by opening your Microsoft Word document and place your cursor where you want the PDF to appear.
Insert the PDF
- Navigate to the Insert tab in the ribbon at the top of the page.
- Click on Object in the Text section. This will open the Object dialog box.
Select the PDF File
- In the Object dialog box, go to the Create from File tab.
- Click Browse to locate the PDF file you want to insert, and then click Insert.
Choose Your Insertion Options
- Link to the Source File: If you want the changes made to the original PDF to automatically update in your Word document, select the Link to File option. This ensures that the PDF is linked, and any modifications to the original document will be reflected.
- Display as an Icon: If you want to save space or prefer a more compact view, you can choose to display the PDF as an icon. The icon will serve as a clickable shortcut to open the PDF.
- Embed the PDF: If you don’t select either of the above options, the PDF will be embedded directly into the Word document. However, note that any changes made to the original PDF will not automatically reflect in the Word file.
Finalizing the Insertion
- After selecting your preferred options, click OK. The PDF will be inserted into your Word document at the cursor’s position.

The “Object” window will now appear. Here, click the “Create From File” tab and then select “Browse.”

Navigate to the location of the PDF, select it, and then click “Insert.”

Next, you need to choose whether to:
- Link to the source file: This option ensures that any changes made to the original PDF will be reflected in the Word document.
- Display the PDF as an icon: This is useful if you want to save space on the page. The icon can be clicked to open the PDF.
If you don’t select either option, the PDF will be embedded directly in the document, and any changes to the original PDF will not be reflected.
Once you’ve made your selections, click OK to insert the PDF into your Word document.

The PDF will now be inserted in the Word doc.
