Adding Images to Headers or Footers in Word
Headers and footers are great for including consistent elements like page numbers, dates, or even images, such as a company logo. Here’s a step-by-step guide to inserting images into your document’s header or footer in Microsoft Word.
Step 1: Open the Header or Footer Area
- Quick Access:
- Double-click the top or bottom area of any page to open the header or footer.
- Using the Ribbon:
- Switch to the Insert tab and click Header or Footer.
- Select a built-in design from the dropdown menu or choose Edit Header or Edit Footer for a blank area.
Step 2: Insert an Image
- Place the Cursor:
- Click inside the header or footer where you want the image to appear.
- Insert the Image:
- Switch to the Insert tab.
- Click Pictures to add an image saved on your computer.
- Alternatively, select Online Pictures to search for an image from the web.
- Adjust the Image Size:
- Click the image to reveal resizing handles (small circles at the corners).
- Drag the corners to resize while maintaining the aspect ratio.
Step 3: Format the Image
- Position the Image:
- Click the Layout Options icon next to the image.
- Choose Behind Text or In Front of Text to position the image without disrupting text flow.
- Drag the image to the desired spot within the header or footer.
- Align the Image:
- Use the alignment tools in the Design tab (under Header & Footer Tools) or the Picture Format tab.
Step 4: Finalize the Header or Footer
- Close Header and Footer:
- Double-click anywhere in the body of the document, or
- Click Close Header and Footer on the Design tab under Header & Footer Tools.
- Repeat for Footer:
- If you need an image in the footer, repeat the steps above for the bottom section of the document.
