Modders Push Back Against Recent Nerf in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree by Reinforcing Final Boss Power

The latest patch for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree introduced some surprising changes, including a nerf to the DLC’s final boss, Promised Consort Radahn. However, many players feel this is a step in the wrong direction and are beginning to reverse these changes.

FromSoft’s patch reduced Radahn’s attack damage, stamina damage, and range. While fighting Radahn has never been easy, he is now less challenging than he was before. I haven’t faced Radahn yet, so part of me is relieved by these changes, but I’m not really looking for an easy way out. I don’t mind how long it takes or how tedious the final battle may be. I want to fight Radahn as he was meant to be fought, striving to win on my 100th try while claiming I’m not even really trying.

When I finally confront the final boss, I’ll likely use one of the many mods that restore Radahn to his original strength. The Pre-Nerf Promised Consort Radahn mod is one such project that aims to “bring Radahn back to his pre-nerf state in the latest patch.

Another mod, Better Promised Consort Radahn, offers more than just a rework of Radahn’s recent changes. “This patch significantly reduces his body temperature, catering to those who enjoy his old aggression and speed but want to avoid the bugs and interactions that make him unbalanced,” the modder Interloper explained in the description. One such bug caused Radahn to get pushed into a wall, leading him to disappear and then randomly die—an outcome that frustrated players who had invested hours of effort into the fight.

Additionally, this mod includes a terrain rework that flattens the environment, preventing players from getting caught on random edges. It also adds sound cues for some of Radahn’s clone attacks and meteor strikes, making them easier to identify. While these changes simplify certain aspects of the fight, they do not diminish Radahn’s strength; they simply make it less tedious to keep up with his chaotic attack combos.

Another mod that introduces detailed adjustments is DLC Radahn Prenerf, which also has a version that only nerfs the cross attack. “I believe I found almost all the changes. However, some players consider the patch to be too much of a nerf to the boss, as I often encountered those who felt that everything except the cross attack was unnecessary,” the modder MiquellaTheUnalloyed states in the description. “So I created a mod to reverse all of these changes, along with a version that retains the cross-attack nerf.”

The cross attack that MiquellaTheUnalloyed decided to keep in place was likely one of Radahn’s most challenging combo attacks. Other than light rolling or using a shield, dodging all of his consecutive strikes was nearly impossible; if you dodged the first attack, you would get hit by the second, and vice versa. However, Radahn’s formidable attacks and massive weapon hitboxes, while challenging, are part of the excitement of trying to defeat a god. Ultimately, mastering Radahn’s attacks and overcoming his relentless onslaught is what makes the journey so rewarding for players.
