Making Word Documents Fillable but Not Editable

Step 1: Enable the Developer Tab

Step 3: Restrict Editing

1. Select all the text in the document by pressing Ctrl+A.
2. In the Developer tab, click Restrict Editing under the Protect group.
3. In the Restrict Editing pane on the right:
   • Check Allow only this type of editing in the document.
   • From the drop-down menu, choose Filling in forms.
4. Click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.
5. (Optional) Set a password for added protection, then click OK.

Step 4: Save and Distribute

1. Save the document as a Word template or regular document, depending on your needs.
2. Share the protected document. Recipients will be able to fill in the blanks but won’t be able to edit the rest of the content.
