How to Make a Striped Table in Word
Tables can sometimes be difficult to read, but adding shaded rows improves both their readability and appearance. Here’s how you can create a striped table in Microsoft Word.
Inserting a Table
To insert a table, go to the Insert tab and click the Table button. You can either create your own table or use one of Word’s built-in options. To access pre-designed tables, hover over Quick Tables to view options like calendars and tabular lists. If the pre-made tables don’t fit your needs, you can build your own by selecting the number of rows and columns you need, or use the Insert Table option for larger tables, up to 63 columns and 32,767 rows.
Adding Borders and Shading
Start customizing your table by modifying borders. For example, you can remove borders from the top row. Select the top row, go to the Design tab, click Borders, and deselect Top, Left, Right, and Inside Borders.
Next, select all but the first two rows of the first column. Again, go to Borders and remove the top, bottom, left, and inside borders. Finally, highlight the box in the second row of the first column and deselect the Left Border.
To add striped rows, highlight every even-numbered row in the table. Under the Design tab, click Shading and choose a color for the row (such as light blue). Repeat this for each even-numbered row to create a striped effect.
Experiment with these options to further enhance your table’s appearance and make it easier to read!
