GTA Online’s New Zombie Mode Draws Over 1.2 Million Players
Rockstar Games has recently launched a new Halloween mode in GTA Online that is already setting records. The limited-time event, named Ludendorff Cemetery Survival, debuted just a few days ago and has successfully drawn many players back into the game.
According to GTAO Stats, the Ludendorff Cemetery Survival mode has amassed a total of 2.7 million plays, with more than 1.2 million of those being unique players. These figures highlight that players continue to enjoy GTA Online, even after more than a decade since its initial release.
The Ludendorff Cemetery Survival mode draws inspiration from Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare, challenging players to confront waves of zombies. In this new mode, players arm themselves and fight their way through hordes of the undead in an eerie cemetery. The blend of thrilling action and Halloween atmosphere has resonated well with players, attracting both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
This success also sheds light on Rockstar’s lack of urgency in releasing GTA 6. The ongoing support for GTA 5 keeps players engaged, allowing developers to dedicate time to perfecting the next installment.
As of now, GTA 5 stands as the second best-selling game of all time, trailing only behind Minecraft, with over 200 million copies sold. The game has generated an astounding $8.6 billion in revenue, further demonstrating its enduring popularity. Events like this continue to attract millions of players, indicating that GTA Online shows no signs of decline anytime soon.
Looking forward, with GTA 6 slated for release in Fall 2025, the success of GTA Online highlights the significant role the online component has played for Rockstar. There is a strong possibility that GTA Online will carry over into the new game or potentially evolve into a new iteration, although no official confirmation has been made yet. Given Rockstar’s track record, whatever direction they choose will likely keep players engaged for many years to come.
