The God of War TV series on Prime Video is undergoing a major overhaul. A recent report confirmed that Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios are starting the project over from scratch following the departure of key creative team members.
According to Deadline, showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins, along with executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, have left the series. The trio had submitted multiple scripts that were reportedly “praised by both Sony and Prime.” However, the decision was made to “move in a different creative direction.”
The God of War series was first announced in December 2022, but there have been no significant development updates since, leaving fans concerned about its status.
Moving forward, Sony and Prime are now looking to hire an entirely new writers’ room, meaning that the God of War show likely won’t debut anytime soon. Despite the delays, Deadline notes that the series remains an “important asset” for Prime Video.
Regarding the God of War game series, the latest installment, God of War Ragnarok (2022), concluded the Norse saga. Given the franchise’s popularity, it’s not a question of “if” but “when” a new game will be announced. Additionally, developer Sony Santa Monica may be working on a brand-new IP.
