Tracking Time Spent on a Word Document
If you’re curious about how much time you spend writing or editing, Microsoft Word provides a built-in feature to track editing time. This can be especially helpful for monitoring productivity or reporting work hours to clients or employers.
How Word Tracks Editing Time
- Automatic Timer:
Word starts a timer when you create or open a document. - Cumulative Time:
Each time you save the document, Word adds the session’s time to the cumulative total stored in the document’s metadata. - Limitations:
Word tracks the total time the file is open, not just the time spent actively editing. If a document remains open while you’re away, that idle time is included.
