CD Projekt has recently faced unfounded claims that it’s struggling due to being “too woke.” While such accusations are not new—many in the gaming industry profit from unfounded gamer outrage—this time, the Witcher and Cyberpunk studio received a direct response from one of its CEOs.
“Seems we live in times where anyone can record complete nonsense and make a story out of it,” tweeted joint CEO Michał Nowakowski, sharing a video that made several extreme claims. He continued, “CDPR talent leaving? We have the lowest turnover in recent years. DEI-driven recruitment? We hire solely based on merit and talent, just as we create games driven by artistic vision. Why did we choose Unreal Engine? It allows us to work more efficiently and keeps us on the cutting edge of technology. As for the Witcher 3’s director leaving, that happened over two years ago. Can we stop with the conspiracy theories and get back to making cool stuff?”
The Witcher 3 remains one of the most beloved games of all time. Although Cyberpunk 2077 initially tarnished the company’s reputation—its director acknowledged they may “never” win back some fans—years of updates and the positive reception of the Phantom Liberty expansion have helped shift the narrative.
